Timeline JS – Create free, beautiful timelines

TimelineJS is a free, open source tool that enables you to easily make timelines that work well on a desktop screen or mobile device.  Originally designed for journalists, this tool would work equally well for students who want to create a timeline of an historical event.

How does TimelineJS work?  Go to TimelineJS to see each of these 4 steps shown in easy-to-follow steps.  Here are the steps in a nutshell:

  • Create your spreadsheet-Build a new Google Spreadsheet using theTimelineJS template. Drop dates, text and links to media into the appropriate columns. Note: Don't change the column headers, don't remove any columns, and don't leave any blank rows in your spreadsheet.
  • Publish to the web
  • Copy/paste spreadsheet URL into the generator box at TimelineJS website.
  • Embed theTimelineJS code into your website.  Students may embed the code into their Google site.
