A long side the modern cartoon is the exact dialogue with highlighted words and phrases to discuss and research as the play in watched/studied.

Dragon Dictation Free LA 8, LA 9, Reading This was among the apps shared in class, however, I have been searching for this.  A few ofmy students have been so dis graphic and/or dyslexic that using a keyboard was fruitless on the MyAccess! Web site. As an accommodation, I took dictation, but realized that I was leading the composition work through interviewing; their grades were not an accurate reflection of their skills. I believe that independent dictation from the graphic organizers will be much more effective in accommodating true growth.

Shoe Me Free LA 7 I can use it for whole class instruction, or for the students to teach each other. It has mini lessons already created by others, but it also gives me the ability to create my own mini lessons.
Simple Mind Free LA 7, LA 8, LA 9, Speech, Creative Writing This is a mind mapping / webbing app. The whole class could brainstorm on a topic on the Apple TV, or an individual or small group could use it to generate ideas.

I plan to use it with the 7th grade perseverance unit to help the students more easily create their Works Cited pages as they research a famous person who showed perseverance.
Bluster Free LA 7 Bluster is a vocabulary game that can be played alone or in teams. Students can choose to study prefixes and suffixes, adjective forms, or rhyming words. The app says it is for grades 2-4, but I played the fourth grade prefix/suffix game and it was a challenge.
Kidioms $1.99 LA 7, LA 8, Reading This app will benefit struggling readers and my ELL students. It has two parts: a notebook style section that defines and explains several idioms, and a game section where students can play with and practice the idioms.
Learn Spanish Free Spanish The picture for this app is the flag of Spain in a circle shap. The free version just gives you animal vocabulary. You can purchase upgrades to get more vocabulary sets like body parts, clothing, etc. The app lets students see a picture, hear ans see the Spanish word, and hear and see the English word.
itooch junior high language arts $5.99 LA 7, Reading I tried the free trial and was impressed with the variety of the categories pertaining to language arts and reading. I could us sections either as an easy starter or for review. I like how the students could review the rules, etc. as they try to answer the questions.

I did fiend an error on the grammar section. It said that the subject ALWAYS had to be a noun. It might confuse students about the difference between nouns and pronouns. I would have to check each section for accuracy.

Book Chat free Reading After students read a book, they can use this app for discussion with others who have read this book.  I might make it a requirement!  Maybe they'll say more than "I liked the book because it was 'good.'"

Best Books for Tweens free Reading For those students who tell me they never can find a book they like, well, they can use this app to find an appropriate book.  They can view by title, category, by rating, etc. Hopefully, this will make the process of finding a book to read easier.
National Geographic Explorer free Reading Many of my students love to read these magazines!  They are pricey to purchase and aren't suited for ALL students in a classroom.  The information in them is always worthwhile.  High interest/easy reading level.

British Library 19th Centery Collection Free LA 7, LA 8, LA 9, LA 10, LA 11, LA 12, Reading Classic novels and other famous British works are shown in digital images that make viewers feel like they are in the museum. There is a subscription fee that lets you view more.  There are specific apps for other collections, such as the Victorian Christmas. That would be helpful with teaching Dicken's Christmas Carol.

Howcast Free LA 7 In the past I have had students write/present How-to essays/demonstrations. This app provides videos of how to do a large variety of tasks or skills. The videos provide examples of this form of expository writing.

Idioms Free LA 7 This app gives the history of where the different idioms come from. This can be a useful tool for our ell students. We use idioms and to our ell students they take them at their literal meanings. With this app the students can research the meanings.
Haiku Free LA 7 I do a poetry unit and we spend some time writing haikus. The best thing about this app is that the students can submit haikus that they have written.
Madlibs Free LA 7 Madlibs are great for reviewing parts of speech with students. This app is fun and I could involve all of my students with it. There are a lot of free Madlibs on this sight,but there are also some you can buy.
Storylines for Schools Free LA 7, Reading This is a fun writing app. This writing activity is like playing telephone. A student writes a storyline, the next student draws a picture to represent the storyline, the next student writes another storyline for the prior picture, and so on. My students will really enjoy this activity!

Voices from a Medieval Village.  From reading these narratives (voices) students begin to understand the narrative process.  This app helps them to write their own narrative as if they were a voice from Medieval times by allowing them to see what life was like during that time period.

It gives the definition of the part of speech, examples of how it can be used, as well as example sentences for students to correct and identify the correct parts of speech.
Parts of Speech Free/2.99 LA 7, LA 8, LA 9, LA 10, LA 11, LA 12 This has more of the basic parts of speech such as pronouns and adverbs, etc. it gives the definition of the part of speech and how it is to be used and then exa,plus. I think the full version for 2.99 would be worth the buy.
Literary Analysis Guide 2.99 LA 7, LA 8, LA 9, LA 10, LA 11, LA 12, Reading This app shows different parts of how to analyze literature. It has a wheel with things such as symbolism, imagery, tone, etc for different literary works. It is not suitable for those past the basic level of analysis but would be great for the middle level.
Inspiration Maps 14.99 LA 7, LA 8, LA 9, LA 10, LA 11, LA 12, Reading The app is a collection of graphic organizers that would help with any concept. THE FREE APP IS ONLY AN INVITATION TO UPGRADE.  Most of the organizers are easy to use and could cover many different kinds of subjects and activities.  There are templates for plot, expository writing, character analysis and so on.  This would work with some of the drawing/mapping applications.
