Flex courses have required face to face hours as well as an online component. Most Courses run 4 weeks.

Chromebooks in the Cloud Classroom

ISTE Standard 3 |April 10, 17, 24 and May 1| |Time 4:30-6:30|
Bring the Cloud to your Classroom! This "Bring Your Own Device" workshop is designed to help educators effectively integrate Chromebooks and Cloud tools into a project-based educational framework. Participants gain experience using Chromebooks, evaluating applications (apps) for educational use, and exploring strategies for teaching with this technology.

Utah's Online Library Research and Resources

UEN Essentials|February 6, 13, 20, 27 | |Time 4:00-6:00 pm|
This course guides K–12 teachers and library media specialists through the hundreds of thousands of digital resources licensed for educational use by Utah educators and learners. In addition to gaining familiarity with online databases included in Pioneer Online Library, participants practice applying the Utah library media core curriculum’s six-step process for information problem-solving while sharing ideas for incorporating research and multimedia resources into lessons and projects for students.

Online Courses

These 6 week online courses are taught fully online.  Some classes offer in person sessions if you would like the face to face component.  However if you are comfortable with online courses this is not required.

Digital Citizenship

ISTE Standard 4 |Beginning Jan 17| |Online|
In this course participants will learn what digital citizenship is, how to teach students to be responsible digital citizens, and how to talk with students openly about cyberbullying and other potential pitfalls of social media. Participants will learn the how to model digital citizenship and develop tools and lessons to use with students of all ages.

Teaching the 4C's with iPads

ISTE Standard 1|Begins March 7| |Online|
In this course participants will not only be engaged with iPads and learning ways to use them in the classroom, but they will also be introduced to the 21st Century Learning Framework of the 4 Cs: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication. Participants will learn about the framework and then apply those elements to iPad use in the classroom for the most effective use of their technology.

Online Tools for Flexible Formative Assessment

ISTE Standard 2 |Begins March 6| |Time 4:30-6:30| ONLINE-With in Person Help Sessions
Effective formative assessment can transform the teaching and learning experience and dramatically improve student learning outcomes. This course focuses on why formative assessment is important and how to effectively use it in the classroom with the help of several online tools. The participants in this course will learn to use free assessment tools like Answer Garden, Padlet, Socrative, Kahoot!, ClassKick, and NearPod to help them formatively assess their students’ learning. This class in offered completely ONLINE or you can take advantage of weekly in person help sessions offered March 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 4:30-6:30 pm in the ASB Computer Lab

Canvas LMS: Deliver Instruction ONLINE

UEN Essentials |Begins January 9| Online |
This 6-week online course is designed for teachers who are looking to modernize their classrooms with a Learning Management System to support a "Blended Learning" environment or teach an online course. This course will only cover the use of the Canvas LMS. In person help sessions are offered for this course on Tuesday evenings January 9, 16, 23, and 30 from 4-6 pm in the ASB Computer Lab

Online Library- Secondary

UEN Essentials |Begins March 1| Online |

This 6-week online class is designed to help secondary teachers and library media specialists effectively use the wealth of information resources in Utah’s Online Library to enrich their teaching and students’ learning. The course guides participants through using the many databases of newspapers, journals and magazines as well as encyclopedias, videos, music collections and more. Each week participants add on to a resource list, as well as explore project-based learning activities and effective research strategies that ensure students benefit from the Utah's Online Library resources as well.

Online Library- Preschool and Elementary
