Summer Tech Classes 2017

UEN Super Blitz

Jordan District Curriculum Technology is pleased to announce the first annual UEN Summer Super Blitz.  UEN instructors will be bringing out 4 great courses to Jordan District

Courses are eligible for SUU, USBE, and licensure credit.  Each course runs two days from 8:30am-4:00 pm in the Jordan District ASB.

The Innovative Educator: Makerspaces
ISTE Standard 1 |June 12-13 |8:30am-4:00pm ASB
This workshop is designed to get teachers and students “hands-on” with their learning. Based upon ideas from the Maker Movement, participants will explore a variety of activities that provide creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent as they deeply engage in science, engineering, and tinkering. We’ll explore “low-tech” activities that encourage cooperation and problem-solving, as well as investigating some “high-tech” challenges which will get us using the latest tools for coding and creating.


Create Online Educational Media
ISTE Standard 2|June 12-13|8:30am-4:00pm ASB
This course helps teachers find and create digital learning objects to support student learning using resources from UEN’s Pioneer Online Library, eMedia, my.uen and more. Participants practice 21st Century skills such as creating mashups, virtual pop-up books, educational interactives and more while exploring strategies for integrating digital media in ways that can increase student engagement and positive learning outcomes. Special emphasis is placed on the ethical use of source material.


Google For Educators
ISTE Standard 2
|June 14-15 |8:30am-4:00pm ASB
This course is designed to help teachers increase student communication and critical thinking skills by incorporating Google tools into educational projects. In addition to modeling experiential learning, the course guides participants through Google Advanced Search, Docs, Calendar, Groups, Video, and more and includes discussion and brainstorming specifically to help teachers make the most of the educational potential of these free and widely accessible online tools.


Effective Teaching with Visual Media 

ISTE Standard 3 | June 14-15| 8:30am-4:00pm ASB
This course is for teachers who want to learn how to enhance student learning with educational technology and media. Participants explore eMedia, Utah ITV, Thinkfinity and other online resources; create virtual tours and presentations; and learn strategies for helping students develop visual literacy and critical thinking skills.
